Gluten Free Pasta

I have been asked what my favorite gluten-free pasta is. I don’t eat pasta very often, but when I do, it’s gotta be the good stuff…and that’s Tinkyada Rice Pasta.

Tinkyada rice pasta is by far the best texture of any gluten-free pasta that I have ever tried. It’s just like eating regular pasta; people who eat regular pasta all the time will never be able to tell the difference if you serve them a dish of Tinkyada. It’s nice to finally have a pasta that isn’t grainy or doesn’t disintegrate if you even attempt to stir it! Al dente pasta finally comes gluten free.

Tinkyada makes a wide variety of pastas to choose from: penne, spirals, fusili, shells, elbow macaroni, spaghetti, fettucini, and lasagne noodles.

Tinkyada doesn’t come cheap, and unfortunately neither does any other kind of gluten-free pasta. Expect to pay either $3.59 or $3.99 for a 16-oz bag. The organic varieties are the pricier ones. I usually wait for them to go on sale, then I’ll buy a few bags to stock up.

Next rice pasta runner up: Trader Joe’s Organic Brown Rice Pasta, and it’s a close second. Prices are much cheaper at Trader Joe’s: only $1.39 for a 1-lb bag of either spaghetti, penne, or rigatoni. The texture is slightly more grainy compared to the Tinkyada, cooks up softer in general, but it still holds its shape well. For the money, and very little compromise, Trader Joe’s is definitely the better value.

Bottom line: if you only have pasta occasionally, splurge and get the Tinkyada. If pasta is more prevalent in your diet, get the Trader Joe’s for better value with larger quantities.
